Room Geometry & Mood Setting
Understanding the layout and geometry of a room plays a crucial role in how it affects our well-being and productivity. For instance, the arrangement of walls, furniture, and open areas influences the flow of energy, enhancing both comfort and creativity. At Pearl Bliss homes we use the concept of 'ergonometrics' which elevates the form-follows-function concept to a different level. Our designs seek to optimise spatial relationships between spaces and boundaries, utilities and functionality, gathering places and solitude, access, exit and entry. How a home feels to us is very important; if it feels safe and peaceful and energising we know we've achieved our goal.

Design schools are replete with notions of divine proportions and 'golden-means', the problem with these is that every context is unique and what works in one set of parameters may suck in another. Geometry of itself can create a sense of placidity or oppressiveness especially if one is confined in that spatial envelope for considerable periods of time. There are a variety of alternative sciences like orgone energy, that posit that specific shapes and materials can affect the life energy within a space. When designing a room, the choice of materials such as wood, stone, or metal can influence how this energy interacts with the environment, that part is measurable and thus scientifically accepted. Moreover, the geometry of a room can either harness or deplete 'energy' creating an atmosphere, a sense of peace or agitation. In regions that encounter proscribed design practices, the resulting effects can lead to issues like sick building syndrome, where occupants experience negative health responses due to poor environmental design, poor aesthetics and bad geometry.

This Design by Vanessa Alexander and photographed by Tessa Neustadt has oodles of charm and yet is a bit disorganised giving the appearance of clutter and mismatch between materials, positioning and creature comforts. Feng Shui offers valuable insights into the layout and organisation of spaces, emphasising the importance of balancing energy through careful design. In contemporary settings, applying these age-old principles of Feng Shui can greatly enhance the liveability of a space. This involves considering factors such as proximity to boundaries and the orientations of doors and windows, which are pivotal in regulating energy flow. By thoughtfully arranging furniture and ensuring an ergonomic design, one can create a nurturing environment that promotes productivity and well-being.
Ultimately, room geometry is more than mere aesthetics; it serves as a creative envelope that empowers individuals to thrive within their spaces. A well-considered layout that prioritises accessibility and ergonomics will not only create beautiful environments but also foster emotional and physical wellness. Connecting effectively with our surroundings paves the way to an enriched experience, transforming spaces into sanctuaries for concentration, inspiration and a sense of security.
Pearl Bliss homes, combining subtle design with practical flair
Pearl Bliss homes are for living, working, holidaying and relaxing in. When retiring from the business and kerfuffle of the outside world many just want a place that serves their diverse needs; somewhere where they can rest, repair, think, plan and create. The needs of families and guests must also be met preferably with fuss-free aplomb. This is where utilities, storage space, layout and recreation come in. Kitchen, bedroom and washroom convenience is a must. The sense of privacy, lavishness of the rammed-earth features and subtle lighting help set the mood. The crowning glory of Pearl Bliss is the Permaculture Food Forest Garden. This is a little piece of heaven, where health, quality, convenience and idealism can seamlessly converge.
